Research Statement

Brain, n. An apparatus with which we think we think. (The Devil’s Dictionary (1906) by Ambrose Bierce)

This quote from the beginning of the last century still reflects very well the limited knowledge we have about our most valuable organ. When the Romans constructed maps of the ancient world they wrote hic sunt leones (here be lions) for unexplored territories. There are rarely any fields in science where there are so many parts still remaining to be discovered as in neuroscience. This makes it a particularly interesting discipline. Thus, several questions regarding our brain are amongst the greatest challenges science is faced within these days: How does the neuronal coding and information processing work? What makes the brain so efficient and reliable? . . .
